Favorite Metal Band?

WHY Pantera, Metallica, Slayer,Korn, Slipknot....why does everyone love these bands? its like whenever someone asks what "metal" band they like, you can bet the majority will answer one of these. I dont know... i just think it kind of sucks that everyone has the same opinions about music... there is no diversity in what people like as far as metal goes... and i would not even consider these bands really metal any more. Does anyone agree or am i alone in my thinking?
